Mediation Competition Is Not About Winning, It Is About Growing
In Vietnam, more and more students are discovering the value of mediation skills development in Vietnam as a foundation for their future legal and professional careers. About 50 Vietnamese students joined the global kick-off event with hundred of participants from other countries proved that.
To support that growth, the Vietnam Effective Commercial Mediation Center (VEMC), in collaboration with the Weinstein International Foundation, is organizing a FREE webinar on October 8, 2025, at 7:30 PM (via Microsoft Teams).
This online session, titled “Question and Answer Session on Competition Rules and Guidelines to Prepare for the Memo,” will be led by Mr. Tuan Nguyen, Director of VEMC. It is open to all registered contestants of the International Mediation Writing Competition (IMWC 2025).
What Students Will Gain from This Webinar
This webinar is not just about competition rules.
It is a learning experience designed to spark mediation skills development in Vietnam, helping students understand steps of mediation, how mediators think, how advocacy works, and how collaboration leads to resolution.
During the webinar, participants will:
- Get direct answers to all questions about the competition’s rules and guidelines.
- Learn where to access official materials and how to interpret them.
- Understand how judges will grade memos and what they look for in writing and reasoning.
- Clarify each participant’s role in mediation, from problem analysis to drafting.
- Review basic mediation concepts for beginners who are just starting their journey.
The session will be hosted via Microsoft Teams, and joining details will be emailed to all contestants before the event.
Building Confidence Through Practice
According to Mr. Tuan Nguyen, mediation is a lifelong skill, not just an academic exercise. As a fellow of the Weinstein International Foundation who has shadowed professional mediators at JAMS in the United States, he believes that mediation skills development in Vietnam begins with real exposure and guided learning.
His experience observing mediations involving construction projects, consumer disputes, insurance claims, and shareholder conflicts gives him an understanding of how theory transforms into practice. This is what he aims to pass on to Vietnamese students through the webinar.
Why Mediation Skills Matter for the Future
The demand for mediation skills development in Vietnam is rising rapidly. As Vietnam’s economy grows, so do commercial transactions and disputes. Courts alone cannot handle all cases efficiently. Businesses, government agencies, and educational institutions are turning to mediation as a faster and more cooperative way to resolve conflicts.
Students who invest in mediation skills development in Vietnam today will have a strong advantage in their future careers. Mediation teaches empathy, logic, communication, and teamwork, skills that every employer values, whether in law, banking, insurance, or business management.
A Community of Learning and Sharing
The IMWC 2025 competition and this October webinar are part of a larger vision, to build a community of young people passionate about mediation skills development in Vietnam. Participants will not only learn how to prepare a strong memo but also connect with mentors, peers, and experts who share the same passion for dispute resolution.
Every question is welcome in this webinar. Whether you want to know:
- How the memo should be structured,
- What your role will be as a participant,
- How judges will assess your work, or
- Where to find reliable study materials,
and this is your chance to ask and learn directly.
